Best Exercises for a Cozy, Comfortable Workout

Many of us know that hot tubs offer the opportunity to relax and soak in luxurious warm bubbles. Personal spas have a well-established reputation for being fully comforting and relaxing. While powerful jets and calming warm water can help you unwind after a long day, these features can also be assets when it comes to exercising. When you invest in a personal spa, not only will you have the opportunity to treat sore muscles from exercising, but you will also be able to exercise in the warm comfort of your hot tub. Exercising in your hot tub is not only easy and fun, but it also encourages you to exercise outside in the frigid winter months.

Your personal spa can be your own warm, underwater gym this winter! Here are a few of our favorite exercises that you can easily do in your hot tub this season.

Heel Raises

Heel raises are a simple way to improve balance and tone your calves. For this exercise, stand flat-footed in your hot tub, holding onto the bar or wall for support if necessary. Then, lift your heels until you are standing on your toes. Hold this position for 3-5 seconds, and then release. Repeat for 2-3 sets of 20 repetitions.

Slow Claps

Underwater clapping exercises are ideal for every fitness level. These exercises are a simple way to tone your biceps, shoulders, and chest. For this exercise, remain seated in the water and extend your arms out fully on either side of you. Then, clap your hands together slowly, making sure that you pay attention to relaxing your arm and back muscles. Slowly move your arms apart again, and repeat for 15-20 repetitions.

Torso Twists

Torso twists are a great way to improve core strength and flexibility, and it is ideal for all fitness levels. Begin by sitting or standing in your hot tub, and cross your arms over your chest. Tighten your core muscles, and breathe out slowly as you twist your body from side to side. Continue to breathe and engage your core muscles as you twist for about 30 to 60 seconds.

Stretching

One of the most well-known benefits of personal spas is muscle recovery and relaxation after exercising. Even if you have not just exercised, stretching is essential to flexibility, balance, and pain management. There are numerous ways that you can effectively stretch in a hot tub. To stretch your legs and calves, place your leg on the lounging chair or stable surface of your spa and lean forward to touch your toes. Another effective way to stretch involves standing as you bend one knee and grab your foot behind you, holding a wall for support if necessary. Both of these stretches should include both legs and be held for 30-40 seconds each.

There are also many full-body stretches that you can easily do in your hot tub. Place your hands on the edge of your hot tub, with your feet securely on the floor. Gently push backward and push your hips back, making sure that your core is tight and your back is flat. This movement effectively stretches your full body. You should hold this stretch for at least 30 seconds before releasing.
